The V-RAPTOR 8K VV Camera from RED DIGITAL CINEMA introduces their new DSMC3 platform, offering compact size, fast performance, and full-frame capabilities. With a slightly larger form factor than the KOMODO, the V-RAPTOR features a new sensor and supports multi-format capture in 8K VV, 6K Super35, 4K, 3K Super16, and anamorphic options. This remarkable versatility allows you to adapt your format for each project, making it compatible with a wide range of professional cine or still photo lenses. Additionally, the V-RAPTOR's RF lens mount supports various lens adapters and includes a locking ring for added security when using larger lenses, ensuring steady and reliable capture even in demanding conditions.
The V-RAPTOR offers a range of advanced features, including dual 12G-SDI outputs, support for higher frame rates with 16-bit REDCODE Raw, wired USB-C 1080p preview video, exceptional dynamic range of 17+ stops, and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF). These capabilities make it highly suitable for various production styles.
The new 35.4MP full-frame sensor at the heart of the V-RAPTOR provides 17+ stops of dynamic range, excelling at low-light capture with the lowest noise floor in the RED lineup.
This versatile sensor offers both 8K VV + 6K35 capture options.
Although the V-RAPTOR doesn't have a global shutter, its rolling shutter with high-speed readout is nearly twice as fast as the MONSTRO, nearly eliminating motion artifacts.
Additionally, this sensor enables phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), ideal for single operators shooting fast-paced or unpredictable action. Accompanying the new sensor is a new fixed OLPF (optical low-pass filter), capturing RED's signature color quality and sensitivity.
RED added a right-side interface for 1st and 2nd ACs with physical buttons to avoid accidental selections and the option to save user pages for customization. The interface displays compatible resolutions and frame rates.
HIGH SPEED - The V-RAPTOR delivers with high-speed frame rates options, including 8K 17:9 at 120 fps, 6K S35 at 198 fps, 4K 17:9 at 240 fps, and 2K 2.4:1 up to a blazing 600 fps.
RED DSMC2 camera options simplified: HQ, MQ, and LQ cover popular choices. Use MQ or LQ for most cases due to 8K sensor's detail. HQ is best for F/X work. Data rates: LQ - 180 MB/s, HQ - 360 MB/s. Plan media needs accordingly.
CFexpress 2.0 Type B cards expand V-RAPTOR storage options. Only the RED/Angelbird 660GB card is currently approved, but a 1.3TB version is coming soon.
The DSMC3 form improves over DSMC2 but has limited compatibility with DSMC2 accessories. For example, KOMODO Outrigger handle works, but POGO-connector only works with new V-RAPTOR version parts. Another update is a bigger fan system with two intake valves for better thermal heat exchange (TEC) and wider temperature range.
CONNECTIONS - Dual 12G-SDI ports for mirror feeds or individual feeds with focus peaking, timecode, and more. USB-C port for 1080p wired preview.
RED CONNECT - Stream high-resolution live R3D video from the V-RAPTOR camera by connecting it to a control unit through an Ethernet cable.
THE RED V-RAPTOR RED TOUCH 7.0 MONITOR
The DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0" LCD Monitor from RED DIGITAL CINEMA. This onboard monitor offers a direct-mount design, providing convenient access during your shoot. With daylight viewing, a wide 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, and touchscreen control for DSMC3 cameras like the V-RAPTOR 8K VV, it delivers exceptional performance.
The RED Touch boasts a high 322 ppi pixel density, 1920 x 1200 resolution, 1250:1 contrast ratio, and 1300 cd/m² brightness, ensuring superior image quality. It securely attaches to your DSMC3 BRAIN using the Pogo mount, allowing seamless video, data, and power transmission from the camera. Additionally, a locking USB Type-C connector provides an alternative option for passing video, data, and power to the camera in case the Pogo mount is required for another accessory. The monitor also features a convenient tilt mount, providing a 180° tilt range for optimal viewing angles.
